Sunday w.p. report

Good numbers of us working down the cutting in the pleasant sunshine this morning culling the Melilot (tall yellow-flowering sweet clover).  This is because it can become an invasive specie.  See botanical picture.  Jan

Saw at least three Silver-washed Fritillaries ( 2 male 1 female) between Section 9 and the new scallop going south. Reckon that makes at least 5 today if you include the male and female seen north of Pytchley earlier. Think they have to be breeding on site which is good news.

Other butterflies also seen were:-  Small white in large numbers in the mud under Ashlawn Bridge. At least two fresh Red Admirals, Comma, Large White, Green Veined White, Marbled White, Large Skipper, Small Skipper, Small tortoiseshell, Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper, Brimstone and Speckled Wood and it wasn’t a bad day!

Southern Hawker Dragonfly & Brown Hawker Dragonfly (by the Zig-Zag path), Common blue damselfly, plus others. Steve

Sunday’s walk on the wild side

We had a good turnout for the walk on Sunday 12th July and were extremely lucky as the sun came out and stayed with us all afternoon.

We looked at the wonderful mix of wildflowers in the grassland by Ashlawn Bridge before enjoying the woodland walk up to Pytchley Marsh and the stunning flora in the Heathy Living Walk near Hillmorton Road. Butterflies were found at rest so all could get close enough to have a good look, and photographers take pictures.

Everybody really enjoyed the walk.   Phil Parr
