‘Jolly’ Volunteers down the Cutting

Learn about the plans for Jolly’s Field as part of the ‘Healthy Living Walk’ campaign.   Please see Jolly HLW plans.

Working down the Cutting on Sunday morning 20th January were Chairman Steve with Phil and Cyril amongst others. If your garden backs onto this area you might like to know what is afoot.

We are seeking funding for a ‘Healthy Living Walk’ around what we call Jolly’s field. We will be looking to do all the work before the end of February. We plan to route mark and create a wildflower area, which we will scrape off and seed up. The new path will be made using the chips from the trees that are felled.  We will clear a 10 metre wide swathe through the scrub, dig out a 2 metre wide path and fill it with chips. Thus there will be some machinery on site, hopefully soon creating this new facility.

Nature Force Nurturing

Over two days in early October, Nature Forcers help the local group with the Meadow Maintenance.  Very good progress was made covering several areas of meadow.  Well done to everyone for their hard work.

Work Party Wonders

On a lovely early Autumnal day the work party got off to a good start.  With birds, butterflies (Red Admiral, Small white and Commas) plus insects enjoying what could be the last of the summer sun!

Green Woodpeckers could be heard calling, the ever present Robin came to see what we were doing to its environment and a flock of Long Tailed Tits were seen to fly over.

Plethora of Pytchley plants

After yesterday’s work party, we took time to admire the ever changing Marsh.  Many Dragonfly and Damselfly were attracted to the receding waters, green, red and blue were spotted.  One pair were even egg laying!

Voluminous Vegetation

After the recent often heavy persistent rains the wildflowers are in profusion with Great Willow herb in abundance, after the Parsley/Pignut & St. John’s Wort came the Vetch, Vetchling, Birdsfoot Trefoil & Clover.  On a sunny day there was much activity from Bees, Ringlet and the odd Meadow Brown Butterflies.
